I am trying very hard to understand why we need to have Greenland as part of the USA. It sounds like the old days of imperialism and colonialism. We have troops in Germany and in other countries. Do we need to buy or take Germany to defend them? Do we charge them for defending them?” You also ask, “What if Russia lands troops in Greenland. Will we tell them to leave?” The same question could be asked about Germany, or France, or Britain. What if Russia lands troops in those countries, will we be able to defend them unless we own them?
Maybe our friends and allies will wonder if our pledge to defend them is merely the first step to taking them over and owning them.
