This is alarming beyond words; I could have answered all those questions when I was 10. Even if they don’t learn this in school, where were their parents when they were growing up?
Teachers have to “teach to the achievement tests.” Only Language Arts and Math are tested. No one cares about other subjects & it shows in our K-12 US schools. This has been going on for over 50 yrs, when schools became essentially “Federalized.” Our kids became “test subjects” using a nationally normed achievement test reportable to the government. Only ONE entity formulates, distributes, ranks the results of these tests. IMHO this testing entity shares a HUGE part of the blame for our students’ ignorance of a broader education including our own history, science, poly sci, economics, social sciences ….Trump is correct in his aim at dissolving the Dept. of Ed. & returning education to the states. States will decide curriculum & range of achievement testing (& its author) & how to use the data to improve a well-rounded education for the students within the state.
This is what happens when Communists take over the education system. It is the intentional ‘dumbing down’ of the populace so that they are not capable of critical thinking on their own. This makes it easier for them to be molded into what Vladimir Lenin called ‘useful idiots’ that will do whatever people in power tell them to do. This works in combination with a propaganda media that feeds them only what the powerful want them to hear or see. Also, blame the parents for not taking time with their children from an early age to explain how things work in the society that they live in and how to take responsibility for their own future.
