You completely (deliberately?) misunderstand the “defund the police” movement. The point is to move functions that belong in the social-services realm, such as welfare checks and mental-health interventions, back to people who are trained to deal with them.
We keep throwing money at police departments and buying tactical military gear, and the cities don’t get safer – what’s needed is more & better training in what the laws say, and community policing. Wait and see what the results actually are, before you decide Mamdani has lived down to your stereotype.
