1. Hong: Just another wolf in sheep’s clothing…& a very muddled one at that.
2. “Clothes do make the man…or woman.” When my public school dropped the dress code, student behaviors turned to wilding almost overnight. With that & cell phones attached to their hands, classrooms became one long day after another of behavior management. (I left soon after, along with many teaching colleagues.) One brave district nearby once asked Jrs & Srs taking the PSAT & SAT to come dressed in prom attire. The results were jaw-dropping: no rudeness/behavior problems/restlessness/antics to “police.” But most of all—the PSAT & SAT scores for this cohort shot up to a level not achieved since. Care of outward appearance reflects care (or not) of others & your investment in everyday tasks or achievements. I believe the higher PSAT & SAT test scores for this one cohort was the result of attention to the details of their appearance, the care & time invested in this continued into the care & time spent on their college entrance exams. As I witnessed in my students, excessively casual dress produced excessively lax behaviors & loss of care for formal learning or tasks. No surprise that the opposite was true in the prom-clad PSAT & SAT exam takers.
