The law notwithstanding, a round fired INTO DIRT involves essentially zero risk to others. It’s an option I would (hopefully) consider when facing off with a perp armed with any weapon BUT a gun.
If the perp has a gun — no warning shot. It’s “guns free” in that situation.
In this Florida case, she was in a paved parking lot, so firing a shot into the ground was not an option.
