…as a 16 year old I was furious when I learned that Social Security deductions were mandatory…as wanted my full paycheck from McDonald’s. I have always thought SS should be voluntary…and still do. However, I have benefitted from SS as I learned at the age of 50 that I had been epileptic my entire life and experiencing “unobserved seizures” throughout my life. The condition got so bad that I started having dozens of seizures a day…and had to go on SS Disability. So I see the need for a social safety net for the disabled and elderly. However…what is with this “Universal Child Care”? No matter how you look at it…you decided to engage in sex…and you decided to have the child. If you couldn’t afford to care for the child…you should have managed your life in a way to avoid having children. Why am I responsible to pay for your child care? What is that…other than a bribe to get people to vote for you? And why don’t these people with children do what humanity has done for thousands of years…meaning have the familes band together and share the child care duties among themselves? It’s ridiculous to expect others to pay for your reproductive choices.
